Established in 2013 by the renowned Luke Dale Roberts, The Pot Luck Club should be on every top 10 list for the Mother City. It exudes style and sophistication without being pretentious; boasts panoramic views that will take your breath away; and has a unique selection of tapas that is hard to beat.
The industrial décor, simple furniture and open plan kitchen with studio lighting sets the scene for the evening; complemented by a knowledgeable team of staff who are more than happy to guide you through the wine list and menu.
Inspired by travels to South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, the menu and is divided in to five distinct flavour profiles: salty, unami, sweet, bitter, and sour; with a couple of sweet endings to round off the meal.
One of our all time favourites is the Pot Luck Club Fish Tacos; and the Tonka Bean Churros with Malted Chocolate Sauce is a dessert lover’s dream. If you’re booking for a special occasion, consider their Sunday brunch – with a continuous stream of delectable platters, bubbly and DIY Bloody Marys, it’s a feast well worth the R400 per person.
So what’s the magic formula behind this trendy spot? According to their website, Dale Roberts developed The Pot Luck Club concept as a brand that could be transported and replicated in other cities or countries. This was tested with a pop up restaurant that “operated throughout the season at Switzerland’s hottest ski destination, Verbier… it was a resounding success that catered to the royal family during their stay there and was filled to maximum capacity for the duration of the season”. We’ll keep an eye out for the next edition, but in the meantime, don’t miss out on an opportunity to dine at The Pot Luck Club in Cape Town and post a comment to let us know all about your experience.
