Winelands & Grootbos

Winelands & Grootbos

This 4 night/5 day tour combines perfectly with our Kruger & Cape Town if you have the time for an extended trip. Grootbos Eco-reserve in whale watching/shark cage diving country is one of our favourite places on earth, both for the unique floral touring offering, proximity to marine adventures and the sheer exquisite tranquillity and service on offer. Combine 2 nights there with 2 nights enjoying the winelands at leisure from picturesque Franschhoek as your base.

Your winelands experience can be tailor-made to include cellar tours, cycling through the vineyards and of course tastings of the some of South Africa’s top tipple in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. We will also prebook some of the favourite top-rated restaurants for lunch and dinner, such as La Petite Colombe, Del Aire and Overture.

This package is suitable for all comers. The winelands is great for a romantic getaway, but offers much for families too!

Day 1:
Your PG Tops Travel and Tours personal tour guide will meet you at Cape Town International Airport (or your hotel after your Cape Town stint) to take you on your scenic road transfer to the Franschhoek via a sumptuous lunch at Del Aire, wine tasting at Ernie Els and a walk around historic Stellenbosch.  Overnight at the magnificent Leeu Estate.

Day 2:
Cycling through the vineyards? The wine tram? Chocolate and wine tasting, cheese tasting, beer tasting, biltong tasting… oh, and of course wine tasting. Oh no hold on, you have little ones? Go visit the goats at Fairview, the Eagle Sanctuary at Spier or do a Segway adventure. Go slow or go big, we’ll help you curate the perfect experience based on your needs. Tonight we will book your dinner at La Petite Colombe – our favourite for fine dining in the winelands!

Day 3:
Your road transfer to Grootbos is about two hours through the picturesque Elgin Valley. We suggest you take your time here, maybe stopping on the way in Hermanus for a walk on the beautiful walkways. The more adventurous can make time for the Cape Canopy Tour en route. But get to Grootbos early, so you can take advantage of an evening excursion to the historic beach caves!

The good news is that your whale watching starts almost immediately  ̶ and all rooms, the lounge and restaurant overlook the massive expanse of glorious Walker Bay.

Day 4:
Today ‘s menu includes a Fynbos Reserve tour, an unforgettable marine safari with Dyer Island Cruises and even a horse ride. Additionally, you can visit the ancient human habitats at Klipgat Cave just outside De Kelders or the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary in Kleinbaai. Your whale watching cruise will last about two hours while the marine biologist on board points out other diverse species in the harbour including seals, penguins, great white sharks and dolphins.

Day 5:
You are transferred back to town for your flight home… or to your next destination…
