Kruger Safari, Cape Town & Garden Route

Our 10-day Safari, Garden Route and Cape Town program combines the best of the bush, the city and the Marine Big 5. On your trip to South Africa you will experience sunset safaris with the big cats, morning encounters with African penguins, see herds of elephant feed right on your doorstep and, in season, observe the giants of the ocean, the southern right whales.

The Sabi Sands private game reserve, adjacent to the Kruger National Park, is world famous for its abundant wildlife. The Ivory Lodge at Lion Sands is pure magic, with river facing rooms boasting private plunge pools, amazingly attentive staff and an abundance of wildlife on your doorstep, on the Sands River. You will spend three nights at one of these luxurious five-star lodges.

We will fly you by charter to, and from, the Skukuza Airport, which is a 30-minute drive from the lodges.

After the three-day safari, guests travel to Cape Town. Your personal tour guide will pick you up at the airport to take you to the Cape Grace Hotel, situated in the V&A Waterfront. The next three days will be spent enjoying the iconic sights and sounds of Cape Town and surrounds, including Table MountainRobben IslandCape of Good HopeBoulders Beach Penguin Colony, the Stellenbosch winelands and the many iconic beaches. As an optional extra, you can also go dive with great white sharks!

The last four days will be spent exploring the Garden Route and its countless hidden gems. Guests can choose to travel either via R62 highway or along the coast. Overnight stops can include Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Tsitsikamma and Plettenberg Bay.

Kruger, Cape Town & Garden Route Safari

Day 1:
Guests arrive at OR Tambo International Airport and connect to a charter flight to Skukuza Airport. Here you will be met by a representative of your lodge and transported to the start of your African safari adventure.  Should you arrive in time, lunch will be served before setting out on an evening game drive, after which the lodge will serve up a decadent dinner.

Day 2:
Early start for a game drive in the reserve, followed by a decadent and sumptuous breakfast. You will have the opportunity to go for a bush walk or simply relax at the spa, on the deck or at the pool. Another game drive in the afternoon will be followed by dinner in the traditional boma.

Day 3:
After a final morning game drive and breakfast, you are transported to Nelspruit airport for your direct flight to Cape Town, arriving in the late afternoon. You will be met by a PG TOPS representative who will transport you to your hotel. After a short city orientation and sunset cocktails on Signal Hill, you will have the evening at leisure to explore the world famous V&A Waterfront and the nightlife of the mother city.

Day 4:
Today you take in some of the world famous sights that has made Cape Town one of the top tourist destinations in the world. The Cape of Good Hope where the Two Oceans meet, spectacular Chapman’s Peak and the Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach.  Tonight you have dinner at one of Cape Town’s premier restaurants, either the Test Kitchen or La Colombe.

Day 5:
We start our day going up one of the New Seven Natural WondersTable Mountain. The cable car, that rotates 360 degrees, takes you up to 1 067m above sea level for a breathtaking view of the city and surrounds.  Then it’s off to the Cape Winelands, where we will taste wines at two or three of the region’s premier estates, visit historic Stellenbosch and enjoy lunch at the highly rated Babel or Delaire Graff restaurants.

Day 6:
The last day in Cape Town offers a variety of optional activities. These include shopping at one of the various markets, visiting the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or historic Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, or taking a township tour to Langa to experience Xhosa culture and the political activist past. In the afternoon guests are transferred to the coastal town of Hermanus, home of the southern right whales, and spend the night at the Birkenhead House.

Day 7:
A Whale Watching Cruise or Shark Cage Diving experience in Gansbaai are the activity options on day seven. Whale watching is available in season (July – October), whilst shark cage diving is available all year round. Alternatively, guests may choose to simply enjoy the wonderful vineyards in the region and the fine dining offered at Springfontein Eats. Again, guests will overnight at the Birkenhead House.

Day 8:
Leaving Hermanus, the driving tour begins along the picturesque Garden Route. Stops along the way include the historic landing site of the first Europeans in Mossel Bay, the spectacular Myoli Beach in Sedgefield for a beach cocktail, and lunch at the Knysna Waterfront. The night is spent in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 9:
A day of adventure and activities. Guests may choose between adventure activities such as paragliding, bungy jumping and kayaking in the forest to a secluded waterfall, or visiting the monkey and bird reserves at Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. Another option is to simply relax at any of the wonderful beaches in the area or take a forest walk through the Garden of Eden. Guests will overnight in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 10:
After ten days in paradise, there will be a morning transfer to George or Port Elizabeth Airport for a flight to Johannesburg and your onward flight home.
