Spring is not only an amazing time of the year to enjoy the unique flora of the Cape Floral Kingdom, but also when the gentle giants of the Arctic waters visit our shores. Our 7-night/ 8-day package ensures your visit combines 5-star luxury accommodation with remarkable flora and fauna experiences, tranquil whale watching, a guided fynbos tour, Big Five safaris and an enchanted visit to the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
We combine the magic of Grootbos Private Nature Reserve in the Overberg area with Big Five-populated game reserve, Sanbona. Grootbos is also highly-regarded for the quality food at its many restaurants – a culinary destination in itself! We then end our delight-filled tour at the boutique guest house, Cape View Clifton, in trendy Camps Bay in Cape Town.
This package is suitable for honeymooners, couples and families. Our preferred lodge for families is Godwana Lodge in Sanbona but if you are a couple we would love to upgrade you to the romantic Dwyka Tented Lodge.
Optionally, the itinerary does allow for shark cage diving, a ferry ride to historic Robben Island and even a cultural township tour of Langa. When you enquire, please specify to your consultant if you would like any of these options included.
Your PG Tops Travel and Tours personal tour guide will meet you at Cape Town International Airport to take you on your scenic road transfer via Clarence Drive to Hermanus. You will arrive at Grootbos Nature Reserve after a picturesque 2.5-hour drive (approximately). The good news is that your whale watching starts almost immediately ̶ and all rooms, the lounge and restaurant overlook the massive expanse of glorious Walker Bay.
Today ‘s menu includes a Fynbos Reserve tour, an unforgettable marine safari with Dyer Island Cruises and even a horse ride. Additionally, you can visit the ancient human habitats at Klipgat Cave just outside De Kelders or the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary in Kleinbaai. Your whale watching cruise will last about two hours while the marine biologist on board points out other diverse species in the harbour including seals, penguins, great white sharks and dolphins.
You can opt to get in on an early morning great white shark diving experience (weather permitting) before heading out to Sanbona Game Reserve for your Big Five safari experience. The road transfer is about two hours, before entering the reserve. Another hour-and-a-half inside the grounds will get you to your camp. That’s when the magic begins. Over the next two days you will have the chance to spot Africa’s Big Five and be treated to the hospitality of the Sanbona staff and African flavour of the legendary Boma dinner.
Your Sanbona experience continues, including a morning and evening game drive. Each game drive is accompanied by local drinks and snacks. More than that, speak to your ranger about other flexible options to enjoy inside the reserve, such as spa treatments, a lagoon experience and flexible departure options.
After your morning game drive and transfer to the gate, your PG Tops personal tour guide will drive you to Cape Town. On the way, you will stop for a couple of wine tastings in Paarl and along Route 62. You will arrive in Cape Town in the early evening at Cape View Clifton.
A full-day peninsula tour awaits you today including Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak, the Cape Point Nature Reserve and the Boulders Penguin Colony. The fully private tour allows you to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Cape at your own pace. Bring comfortable shoes for the scenic hike at Cape Point and speak to your guide about optionally going up Table Mountain in the cable car on the way back.
Today is your optional day; peak to your consultant when planning your holiday about how you want to spend your last day in Cape Town. Whether it’s Robben Island, Langa Township, hiking up Table Mountain or city-markets shopping – we can help facilitate any of these activities.
You are transferred for your flight back home, but we bet you will be back…
